DJ Disciple Biography 2023

 







DJ Disciple (David Banks) is a Brooklyn-based house music DJ with decades of hits in the industry. Having spent several years building his reputation with explosive sets at Pacha (Ibiza) and Ministry of Sound (UK), he was named one of the world’s top 100 DJs by DJ Magazine. His Grammy-nominated 2002 hit single “Caught Up” was also featured on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. After appearing on MTV and BBC Radio 1, Disciple has certainly made his mark on the house music scene. In 1997, he started his own record label, Catch 22 Records. This year marks his 25th year of making music with Catch 22.

Despite the 2020 lockdowns in New York, DJ Disciple’s artistic freedom could not be stifled. Seeing as restaurants had become the major platform for DJs to thrive as artists in New York, he continued his residency at Martha’s Country Bakery in Williamsburg. He made regular appearances at LiveSpin at the Funktion House in Red Hook and showcased himself at self-booked venues to gain more of an audience.

In 2020, Disciple released two albums, Sounds You Can Feel Vol I & II, selling multiple copies online. The album reached number one on the Traxsource charts with Doug Gomez’s remix of “Midnight Espresso”. In 2021, he worked with new artists Amorelle, Beatweezy, and Harmonies for two new albums; Selections was released in the spring, followed by Full Circle in the fall.

DJ Disciple has recently added Mera Lounge in South Brooklyn on Thursdays to his already busy weekend schedule. DJ Disciple enjoys spending time with his daughter.  On June 20TH he was awarded the Parent Leadership Award by PS 307 for his outstanding leadership and devotion to the children of the school. 





 On August 20th,  2022 DJ Disciple collaborated with Eric Blackwell on The Fort Greene Farragut Weekender. It had 3,000 residents in over 2 days, over 500 meals, and 350 book bag supplies for kids. DJ Disciple was awarded ‘Above & Beyond, The Mary Andrews Award for the work he’s done as a Farragut Housing resident.
